Water

Recently I watched this film in my Asian religions class, when we watched it then we were supposed to analyze it for all of the aspects of Hindu that we have learned about in class. I can tell you from what I learned there about Hindu is that almost everything in this movie is influenced by the religion. Besides the obvious spiritual symbol of water throughout the film, there are many other hidden religious symbols thrown into the story as well. For example, there were some scenes that showed little shrine like areas and one of those shown had a cow as its focal point. In Hindu, the cow is a very spiritual symbol of life and grace and a viewer that had little to no knowledge about the Hindu religion may not have known the significance of that shrine.

Water is a very fun and beautiful movie and even if you don't have a lot of knowledge about the religion, it's spiritual nature something that anyone can grasp. The film also has a unique way of portraying the story of Krishna and Radha which is so prominent in Hindu culture; Narayan even plays the flute which is symbolic of Krishna. In all I think this is a very powerful movie, not just about the religion itself but the changes India was struggling with and is still struggling with even today.
